With the expansion of Lions Clubs in Queensland, the Ashgrove Club was formed by the City of Brisbane Club in 1962. Within a short period of time the Ashgrove club soon formed new clubs, namely, Enoggera (1965), Bardon (1967) which unfortunately no longer exists, and The Gap (1968).
The President was Joe Avery, Secretary Winston Smith and Treasurer was Arch Anderson
Over the years the Ashgrove Club has met at Wests Old Boys Club, the Italio Australian Club, the Ashgrove Services Club and the Ashgrove Golf Club.
The Gap Lions Club was formed by the Ashgrove Club in 1968. Syd Mc Donald (OBE) was President at that time. Other Lions who were also involved were Bert Weir and Keith Campbell.
The Charter Presentation Dinner was held at A.M.A House in L’Estrange Terrace on April 27th, 1968. Ross Walters was installed as President, Moss Pollak as Secretary and Noel Kendall as Treasurer.
The first dinner meeting was held at the The Gap R.S.L. Club. Later venues included the CTA Club, the Bardon Bowls Club, The Gap RSL again, and the Ashgrove Golf Club.
For a number of reasons, members of both clubs decided to join together to form the Ashgrove/ The Gap Lions Club Inc. in 2007.
